ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the problem of electromagnetic coupling due to a transmitting antenna placed inside a rectangular shaped cavity. The theoretical approach shows that each TEm n (or TMm n) mode behaves like a transmission line, or virtual line. To determine the field amplitude appearing at resonance frequencies, the concepts of mutual inductance and capacitance used for the TEM mode are extended to the virtual line. The thermal losses are inserted by means of the Q factor. To conclude, some comments about the behavior of large cavities in respect of wavelength are added.

 INTRODUCTION

The second part of the article dealing with the transmission line theory applied to electromagnetic cavities, will be devoted to the power coupled on TE (or TM) modes.

Unlike the transverse electromagnetic modes (TEM) briefly related in chapter 1 of Part I [D 1 327] , TE or TM modes as established in waveguides short-circuited at both ends, involve wave propagation according to the transverse dimension of the waveguide. In order to lighten the theoretical approach, a simpler way will be to assume that propagation of TE or TM modes behaves like a virtual transmission line, or in other words, it’s a virtual TEM mode. This alternate way was suggested in a paper published in year 2001 by Tadeuz Konefal et al. Hence, this Part II [D 1 328] , will be partially build with the mater of this article as available in reference .
