2. Antenna characterization

The aim of this paragraph is to define and describe in general terms the various quantities usually used to characterize antennas. All these quantities are functions of electromagnetic fields or currents, which depend on position, frequency and time when observed in the frequency (or time) domain.

At a given frequency, the fields are written (vectors are noted in bold type) :
