8. Glossary

Channel

The channel is the inversion layer that forms between the source and the drain in the on-state and allows current to flow.

CMOS; Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor

Technology that includes N-type and P-type MOS transistors.

Short channel effect

Refers to all the parasitic effects that occur in the operation of a transistor when the channel length is reduced.

Threshold voltage

The voltage that must be applied to the transistor's gate to switch it from the off state to the on state.

Transistor; transistor

A basic component of an integrated circuit. It is a four-terminal device that behaves like a voltage-controlled switch.
