8. Conclusion

Dependability integrates customer needs and product use cases to define robustness requirements. This fundamental work should be the point of entry for EMC, as the levels of constraints are translated from the need to the system and its components. When this link is misunderstood, it generally results in over-dimensioned EMC constraints in life phases where the product has no critical functionality. Sometimes, too, EMC requirements are defined with the aim of demonstrating a robustness which, if lacking, would affect the product's brand image. These requirements are often treated with the same level of priority as requirements concerning product safety or availability.
