6. Other chlorine production processes

Among the processes for recycling HCl into chlorine, there are three main families:

  • electrolysis of HCl to chlorine ;

  • oxidation of HCl with nitric acid (Kel-Chlor process);

  • catalytic oxidation of HCl (Deacon process).

6.1 Electrolysis of HCI solutions

There are three main processes:

  • diaphragm electrolysis of aqueous solutions (Uhde process) ;

  • gas-phase electrolysis (Dupont process) ;

  • membrane electrolysis (Bayer/De Nora process).
