4. Diversified uses for fly ash

4.1 Classification by type

Generally speaking, ash from coal combustion in thermal power plants has specific characteristics and properties in terms of fineness, shape, pozzolanic and hydraulic activity, enabling it to be put to a wide range of uses in the construction and public works sector, particularly in the road sector, which is of particular interest to us.

Depending on their type, ashes are mainly used as binders or aggregates (fines), but also (to a lesser extent) for dewatering and compaction purposes. The classification proposed in table 5 is representative of the possible uses, mainly in the road sector.
