3. Conclusion

Over the last twenty years, the two main types of permanent metal die casting processes - die-casting and vacuum die-casting - have undergone remarkable growth, both in terms of volume (mainly due to the increasing use of aluminum in the automotive industry) and from a technological point of view. Apart from the introduction of vacuum die-cast ductile chassis parts, there has been no revolution in either alloys or processes, with the exception of the emergence and widespread use of digital simulation. On the other hand, there has been remarkable progress in metal treatment and quality, filling and solidification (simulation has been decisive in these two areas). More economical heat treatments are being developed: shorter solution times, use of demold quenching and T5.
