This article presents the different types of rolling stands used on long products in carbon or low-alloy steels. It details the structure of the stands and their principle of operation. It also shows how stands can be arranged to build a rolling mill which may comprise up to 30 cages in one or more groups.

INTRODUCTION
A rolling mill, or rolling train, consists of a set of tools organized in various ways depending on the products manufactured and the history of the facility.
The basic components of all rolling mills are roll stands, commonly referred to as stands.
A rolling mill can comprise from two to more than 30 stands, in one or more groups.
The first part of this article presents the different types of cages used in rolling and their design. The second part explains how to assemble and organize these cages to form different rolling mills.
