10. Photo-Patch test in humans
This test was developed to confirm the absence of photosensitizing potential in a substance or mixture after repeated application under a bandage and exposure to UV light.
The study lasts six to eight weeks. This test is carried out under the supervision of a dermatologist.
The test is not validated by the OECD, but it is often used in cosmetics as a replacement for animal testing.
10.1 Induction
The product is applied under an occlusive or semi-occlusive dressing (depending on its composition) for 24 hours on the volunteers' backs, twice a week for three consecutive weeks.
Exposure to UV rays at a slightly erythematogenic dose is performed after each dressing change.
