9. Photoallergy
It is a pathological skin mechanism following UV exposure, caused by photochemical changes due to UV rays, substances absorbed locally in the skin, or substances reaching the skin's surface via the bloodstream. The photoantigen is then taken up by T lymphocytes according to the mechanism of type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction.
Contact photoallergy is induced by UVA (320–400 nm), regardless of the maximum absorption spectrum of the photoallergen.
