2. How do you establish a VLEP?

2.1 Setting VLEP

Establishing ELVs is an important step in the overall process of assessing the hazards of a chemical substance. It is the logical outcome of the studies carried out to determine the ADME of the substance, as well as the results of short-, medium- and long-term "in vitro and in vivo" toxicological studies.

The first step is to establish the toxicological profile of the substance and collect all relevant data, then select the most relevant and valid studies (Klimisch).

Physicochemical data relevant to inhalation must be collected, in particular form (gas or particles), particle size, liquid volatility (boiling point and vapor pressure – PKa), solubility in aqueous and lipid media, and partition coefficient (log K o/w)....
