1. Understand what is meant by the term "production process".
Production" is the generic term used in industrial companies to designate product manufacturing activities, and in service companies to designate customer service activities. Production activities are one phase in a chain of operational processes, also known as "core business processes".
In the ISO 9001 standard, the requirements relating to production control are set out in chapter 8.5. The terminology "production and service provision" used explicitly encompasses product production and service provision activities.
