1. Identify essential activities and associated key skills

The implementation of multi-skilling does not concern all the company's activities, but only those that are critical to the company's long-term survival. The first step is to define the key activities that are essential to the company's operations.

To ensure a comprehensive approach, this identification will be based on the system's processes.

The first step is to identify the main process activities. To illustrate the method, we'll use the example of the purchasing process. In our case, the key activities would be (non-exhaustive list):

  • sourcing ;

  • supplier selection ;

  • ORDERING ;

  • incoming inspection ;

  • supplier (re)evaluation.
