6. Facility
As soon as an industrial activity is covered and classified under the nomenclature of classified facilities, it is considered an installation within the meaning of ICPE legislation. Regulatory requirements may therefore be imposed on it depending on its classification status (declaration, registration, or environmental permit).
The term “facility” is interpreted broadly by the legislature, which defines a classified facility to include not only physical facilities but also activities, structures, and construction projects.
For a single industrial facility, multiple installations, activities, structures, or construction projects may be classified under the ICPE classification system.
