BATAEL

Best Available Techniques Associated Emission Level . In operational terms, BATs are associated with pollutant emission levels ("BATAEL" for Best Available Techniques Associated Emission Level). These levels are very often expressed as ranges of values encountered in the industry in question, and which can therefore be achieved when one of the identified BATs is implemented. They are not emission limit values (ELVs).

Best REFerences. A BREF document describes the various techniques for reducing emissions and energy consumption used in the sector in question: it is a compilation of certain BATs.
