 INTRODUCTION

Mechatronic products integrate technologies from the fields of mechanics, electrical engineering, electronics and information technology. Within a single organization, mastering these different technologies means mobilizing the resources associated with the technologies in terms of design and development resources. This mobilization is difficult and presents a dilemma if the size of the organization is small or if the product is too complex.

Open innovation makes it possible to integrate skills and know-how from outside the company into product design and development operations. This type of organization, proposed by Chesbrough in the 1990s for large companies, can provide a solution to this dilemma.
