1. Identify the parameters that determine the costs of introducing an innovation

The first disruptions to capacity occur during the industrialization phase, i.e. when "series" production resources are used to finalize product development, and verify product/process suitability.

There are two types of costs associated with industrialization:

  • production at throughputs, rates or unit times that are often degraded compared to existing products, and generally not known with any certainty;

  • increase in series changes and/or changeover time.

These two parameters will also be the main factors to be taken into account in the load/capacity analysis during the production launch phase.
