1. Understand how a virtual project team works
A virtual team is a form of organization in which the various members are bound by common objectives for a set period of time, as is the case in a traditional team. The team is said to be "virtual" because its members work in different places and at different times.
The main difference is how to work together when space and time are not always shared.
Most communication can therefore take place via communication tools (videoconferencing, e-mail, instant messaging...); these can be of traditional types (telephone and e-mail) or more recent ones (chat, forum, telephone meeting in the form of a conference, or even videoconferencing).
These tools are often the only way to ensure regular contact between members. Proper use of these tools is therefore a sine qua non for the performance of virtual teams.
