When it comes to quality control of healthcare products, the major difficulty encountered by the analyst lies in the complexity of the media to be analyzed. Whether it's the case of drugs, which are made up not only of the active ingredient(s), but also of a number of excipients of very diverse natures, or dietary supplements, which have varied and often complex compositions (plants, vitamins, amino acids, etc.), the analysis method will generally target the active compound(s) specifically. Chromatographic methods are particularly well suited, as they are specific and can be highly sensitive, especially when mass spectrometry is used as the detection method.
