3. Risk of collision

A conjunction presents a level of risk that depends on the size of the objects, the distance at which they pass and positional uncertainties. The risk is quantified by a collision probability. This section presents the methods used to obtain a reliable assessment for short conjunctions in a straightforward way. The special case of long conjunctions is dealt with by a specific approach in paragraph 3.5 .
