3. Evolution of tomography

There are four main reasons for this development.

1- In its early days, tomography was considered a "costly technique", based as it was on large installations marketed in small numbers. Over the past ten years, however, it has developed thanks to the arrival on the market of installations of all sizes, which are easier to set up and often delivered to users in "kit" form by assemblers who combine the independent elements of the chain (source, detector, multi-axis motion supports and software).

2- The development of high-capacity software and computers, and of detectors (most of which now use direct and surface conversion), means that large volumes of data can be acquired and processed in ever-shorter timescales. This leads to data acquisition and tomographic reconstruction directly in 3D. Tomography has thus gained not only in acquisition...
