2. Determining work and power: principles

2.1 Measurements on rotating machines

Most driving and driven machines "deliver" or "absorb" mechanical energy via a rotating output shaft. In this case, it's easiest to measure torque C and rotational speed ω.

Power is the product of torque and speed.

The average torque value represents the work corresponding to an angular rotation of the shaft of one radian.

Different cases may arise.

1.The machine whose characteristics are to be measured is under study. It can be installed on the test bench, which must then allow :

  • machine performance measurement ;

  • the absorption...
