5. Inspection procedure, sequence of operations
5.1 Preliminary cleaning
The materials and processes used to prepare and clean the surface prior to inspection must be chosen according to the pollution and residues present on the surface, due to the manufacture or operation of the part to be inspected. But also, depending on the material, so as not to risk corroding, attacking or embrittling it, or affecting its mechanical characteristics and fatigue life. What's more, no residue from this operation should remain on the surface, at the risk of reducing inspection performance (detectability, reliability, etc.).
Mechanical pickling processes (sandblasting, shot blasting, etc.) can be used, except generally on machined parts or finished parts, depending on the metal substrate in question, where they can lead...
