ABSTRACT

Paper and cardboard packaging is based on cellulose fiber derived from wood or recycled paper and cardboard products. Thanks to highly specific know-how, which is constantly evolving, this raw material has generated, in France, one of the most extensive gamut of papers and cardboards in the world. The richness of this resource in property terms has enabled this industry to develop diversified products which are extremely well adapted to the requirements of supply chain.

 INTRODUCTION

The paper and cardboard packaging industry is based on one material: cellulose fiber, whether derived from wood and/or recycled recovered paper and cardboard products. Thanks to specific, constantly developing know-how, this raw material has generated one of the world's most comprehensive ranges of paper and cardboard.

The richness of this resource in terms of grammages, textures, surface treatments, transparency or opacity, and color varieties, has enabled the paper and cardboard packaging industry to develop a diversity of products that are particularly well suited to the requirements of the supply chain.

The main types of paper and cardboard articles intended for contact with foodstuffs are as follows:

  • folding papers and/or dividers ;

  • single-layer bags ;

  • multi-ply bags ;

  • folding cartons, including pastry boxes ;

  • corrugated cardboard (cases, trays, wrap-arounds, boxes, etc.) ;

  • trays, boxes ;

  • placemats ;

  • plates (flat cardboard) ;

  • paper towels (cellulose wadding) ;

  • towels (cellulose wadding) ;

  • infusettes and coffee filters ;

  • cups ;

  • siliconized paper, parchment paper or baking paper.
