4. Selection factors

4.1 Distances to cover

Loading and unloading operations must be taken into account when calculating the profitability of a project, which can only be justified beyond a certain distance.

A balance must be struck between the expectations of the towing machine and those of the forklift trucks performing the terminal maneuvers. It is often necessary to unhook trailer trains at stations to avoid waiting time for equipment and personnel. In such cases, the layout of these stations must be planned in advance, taking into account manoeuvring times at the station.
