 INTRODUCTION

Bonding and lamination are techniques that have been tried and tested for decades for the assembly of composites, whether conventional reinforced plastics or high-tech composites based on carbon fibers or reinforced thermoplastics.

The use of this assembly technique, whose advantages and disadvantages are listed in Box A, does however call for special skills (adapted design of the parts to be assembled, preparation of the surfaces to be assembled, testing of the assemblies to determine their mechanical, physical or chemical characteristics...) and requires knowledge of the different types of adhesive and their characteristics in order to select the adhesive best suited to a specific assembly problem.

Readers will find numerous applications of composite bonding in the articles :

  • Bonding composites in aeronautical, automotive and railway construction ;

  • Bonding composites in various industries .
