ABSTRACT

Liquid effluent treatment facilities are increasingly present on industrial sites. The biological treatment which uses bacteria for the elimination of biodegradable pollution is often at the core of the treatment process. This method is difficult to master for industrial effluents as process waters are disrupted by the various pollutants present in the effluents and their significant variability. The treatment of industrial waste waters is thus complex. Each site, each plant represents a specific case which requires adapted equipment and processes.

 INTRODUCTION

In France, there are an increasing number of liquid effluent treatment plants on industrial sites. In many cases, biological purification using bacteria to eliminate biodegradable pollution is at the heart of the treatment process. This method remains difficult to master for industrial effluents, as it is often dysregulated by the different pollutants present in the effluents and their considerable variability.

Quality requirements resulting from technological developments in industry mean that the manufacture of process water is becoming increasingly technical.

At the same time, waste treatment is becoming a priority to which companies are devoting more and more effort.

In all industrial sectors (chemicals, food, paper, oil and petrochemicals, textiles, metallurgy, surface treatment), the water treatment specialist has to make its experience and know-how available to manufacturers (see
