Cutting fluids are subject to the provisions of the Labor Code relating to the prevention of chemical risks, specifically Articles R. 4412-1 to R. 4412-93. Other articles concern cutting fluids, such as R. 4222-12, which refers to the ventilation and sanitation of work premises.

8.1 Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

PAHs are molecules composed of carbon and hydrogen atoms, but their structure includes at least two fused aromatic rings.

Since an entire oil is derived from PAHs, impurities may be found in the base oil. In addition, PAHs are present in minimally refined oils, regenerated oils, and oils exposed to high temperatures.

In order not to be labeled as carcinogenic, PAHs must not exceed 3% of DMSO...
