Full oils are a category of cutting fluids (figure 1 ). More specifically, they are chemical compounds made from a base oil to which various additives can be added to enhance performance. On average, current lubricants, all categories combined, consist of approximately 93% base oil and 7% additives (figure 2 ). Additives are key to the chemical performance of lubricants.
