INTRODUCTION
The evaluation of energy savings over the follow-up period (the period following the implementation of modifications to the installation, which can last several years) is essential to ensure a calculation of the energy and therefore financial gains achieved; in the case of an EPC, this should also enable contractors to be fairly remunerated. However, this evaluation is a complex process that requires a methodological benchmark: this is the aim of the IPMVP protocol.
The IPMVP protocol (in French: protocole international de mesurage et de vérification de la performance énergétique) is intended for professionals to use as a reference for preparing reports tracking savings generated within the framework of AEE/MCE (MCE, mesurage des consommations d'énergie) or CPE (CPE).
This practical guide outlines the steps involved in deploying this protocol. It covers :
List the objectives of M&V (measurement and verification) techniques;
present the fundamental principles of good M&V and their application in industry;
define the IPMVP structure and its four options;
define the means for specifying the use of the IPMVP ;
identify key information to be included in each savings monitoring report.
