The planet has just experienced the hottest decade on record, with temperature records broken almost every summer; according to The Global Carbon Budget Office (Prof. Pierre Friedlingstein of the University of Exeter), 2025 is set to be the year that sets a new global record for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Even if all greenhouse gas emissions were to cease immediately, the consequences of climate change that have already begun will continue to influence the climate through 2050, and likely beyond.
