• Vision is a mode of perception that enables the eye to encode visual space in the form of retinal images transmitted to the visual areas of the brain.

• Hearing is a mode of perception that enables the ear to encode auditory information in the form of frequencies transmitted to the auditory areas.

  • The major difference between these two sensory modalities lies in the fact that visual perception is spatial, while auditory perception is frequency-based (table 1 ).

    What's more, since the frequency of a pure tone is closely linked to its period (f = 1/T ), we can consider that the eye's analysis is spatial, while the ear's is temporal.
