• Vision is a mode of perception that enables the eye to encode visual space in the form of retinal images transmitted to the visual areas of the brain.
• Hearing is a mode of perception that enables the ear to encode auditory information in the form of frequencies transmitted to the auditory areas.

The major difference between these two sensory modalities lies in the fact that visual perception is spatial, while auditory perception is frequency-based (table 1 ).
