1. Radar equivalent surface (SER)

When an incident electromagnetic wave encounters a target, it undergoes a diffraction phenomenon and the wave resulting from this interaction depends on the properties of this target (shape, electromagnetic characteristics) and of course on the characteristics of the incident wave (frequency, polarization). This diffracted wave varies as a function of the direction of observation (Φ, θ), with Φ the azimuth angle and θ the elevation angle defined in relation to the direction of incidence (figure 1 ).
