1. Manufacturing process

The production of aluminum sheet in a rolling mill involves various deformation and reheating processes throughout the manufacturing process. The physical characteristics that customers buy with an aluminum sheet or foil are, depending on the case, an alloy, or the following properties:

  • mechanical: strength, elongation, formability, toughness, wear... ;

  • geometrical: thickness, width, length with tolerances, flatness ;

  • surface topography and/or appearance: roughness, texture, gloss ;

  • surface chemistry: cleanliness, nature and thickness of oxide layer, corrosion resistance.

  • The starting point for the manufacture of these sheets and the production of the alloy is, in most cases, plates...
