8.1 Context
As knowledge of the impact of fine particles on human health and the environment has grown, thanks to the development of methods for measuring them, fine particles are the subject of strong and growing attention from public authorities, both internationally and locally, on the following points:
Geneva Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Pollution,
revision of the Gothenburg Protocol, with possible inclusion of PM 2.5,
tightening of PM 2.5 limit values for ambient air quality in Directive 2008/50/EC,
ambitious objectives at French level for PM 2.5 in ambient air with the Particulate Matter Plan resulting from the Grenelle...
