1. Titanium corrosion resistance

Titanium's corrosion resistance is not due to its resistance to oxidation, as is the case with noble metals such as gold or platinum. In fact, titanium is a highly reactive metal, and spontaneously oxidizes in air. The oxide layer formed becomes highly protective and impervious, and slowly increases in thickness. Titanium resists well in acidic environments, except when the pH becomes too low, and it also resists in oxidizing environments. However, it does not resist corrosion in the presence of fluoride ions or in highly reducing media.
