 INTRODUCTION

You need to assemble sheets or films. You're looking for a permanent bond between two injection or extrusion parts. You have different materials to assemble.

The choice of technology is imposed on you, or you can opt for a new technology.

You have at least one thermoplastic in your assembly, and perfect compatibility between the materials to meet your specifications. For further information on compatibility, and more specifically on the surface tension of materials, please refer to the How to make an assembly? sheet. [FIC 0767]

Ultrasonic (US) welding of thermoplastics enables fast, simple welding of parts, whether voluminous or flat, sometimes with a weld seam contaminated by impurities. It is particularly well-suited to very large production runs, and is often easy to integrate into a production line.

Complemented by the What are the phenomena involved in an assembly? [FIC 0765] worksheet, this sheet will help you :

  • choose the right material for your specifications and for ultrasonic (US) welding;

  • identify all the parameters to be taken into account for this technology;

  • appreciate all the advantages and disadvantages of this technology;

  • plan training, quality monitoring and maintenance operations.
