 INTRODUCTION

Conventional information management and presentation tools such as spreadsheets, graphs, text and still or moving images are, by definition, linear. What's more, each tool presents only one dimension of the subject at hand (numerical, synthetic, descriptive, etc.). Gantt charts and Pert graphs can be used to complete the picture. To convey the complexity of a project, the mind map is another useful tool.

This practical fact sheet and its associated tools provide pointers to the most common contributions of mind maps, both in the field of personal effectiveness and that of project team operation, distinguishing between innovative features and features that are compatible with tools such as the Gantt chart.
