3. Setting up indicators to monitor the environmental performance of packaging

The first step in this approach is to identify the four indicators recommended in 2011 by the Conseil national de l'emballage (see the bibliography in the "Pour aller + loin" section). For your information

  • Mass: sum of the masses of the components of the complete packaging system.

  • Volumetric content/container ratio of the sales unit (primary packaging).

  • Palletization volume ratio: sum of volume of sales units transported per pallet/volume of palletized load.

  • Recycled material ratio: mass share of post-consumer recycled material used in the complete packaging system.
