1. Design and control your tooling

1.1 General principle of ultrasonic welding tool design

The sonotrode is the tool used for ultrasonic assembly. It is part of an acoustic assembly comprising the transducer (or converter), the booster and the sonotrode.

The acoustic assembly must be tuned like a bowstring to produce the right sound. For ultrasonic welding, the maximum vibration must be at the joint plane.

For each assembly, the basic rule is as follows:

  • In principle, a sonotrode must be designed for each application (each assembly is unique in terms of its nature, the shape of the parts, the surface and the shape of the weld);
