3. Respond with assertiveness and flexibility

In a post-pitch exchange, responding to a question or objection is not an exercise in defense, but in the art of balance: between clarity and diplomacy, between firmness and openness. This is where assertiveness comes into its own. Being assertive means neither imposing nor evading, but expressing a clear response, respecting the other's position while asserting your own.

3.1 Understanding what an assertive response is

Assertiveness rests on three pillars.

  • Clarity: getting to the heart of the matter, without unnecessary detours.

  • Respect: don't invalidate the other's position.

  • Firmness: defend your point without aggression.
