The development of IoT certainly poses difficult technical problems, but the key factors, as always, are the players, the objectives and the data.
MtoM (machine-to-machine) communication has been around for a long time: sensors exchange data with control systems in companies, or a cash dispenser exchanges data with the central system without human intervention. The first network level was the tracking of products or equipment using RFID chips. Applied to logistics, as in hospitals for the management of biological samples, these techniques enable the unique identification and tracking of each object. When tags and sensors have large capacities and ranges, the network can be used to track equipment.
