5. The agile, permeable funnel

The innovation process is instrumented and institutionalized to generate and capture ideas on an ongoing basis. The entire – organization, and not just the functions dedicated to Research and Development – and its culture, are adapted to support and empower ideas. The permeability of the funnel applies to both "entry" and "exit": stopping the project, outsourcing part of the cycle, selling the idea and the first results obtained to a third party for further development, etc. The project commitment process is disconnected from the annual budgeting process, for greater flexibility while respecting the large envelopes allocated during the latter.
