Re-expressing an ideal need from an initial idea – Reproblematization

Reformulating an initial idea into what we call an "ideal need" is a step that needs to be carried out with the utmost care. The result may or may not guarantee that you have targeted a problem with strong legitimacy, representing a high potential for value creation, a prerequisite for radical innovation. Three tools enable you to re-express an ideal need:

• clarification of the causes, purpose(s) and sustainability of the need;

• need seen as a transfer function ;

• the need seen as a transformation service.

Reproblematization is the second deliverable in the Radical Innovation Design ® (RID) methodology, described in detail in a series of practical sheets. After launching the innovation project with the "Investigation Logbook", it defines the perimeter of the territory to be explored, before focusing on existing usage situations and problems/pains.
