6. Mistakes to avoid

  • Bear in mind that the business intelligence manager (or project manager in the initial phase) will have to coordinate the company's key functions. He or she will need to be credible and supported, as business intelligence often calls into question certain habits of information retention or comfort in activities impacted by business intelligence.

  • Don't put all your energy into changing everything at once. Prioritize and develop monitoring, safety and communication in turn. Involve everyone, but do it one at a time.

  • Don't try to measure the return on your business intelligence investment at all costs. At least not in the initial stages. Competitive intelligence is based on immaterial information, the calculation of whose value has been a headache for millennia.
