1. Choosing the right visualization tools

To properly visualize a crisis, it's essential to select the right tools for the nature of the data and the crisis in question. Geographical maps, interactive dashboards and graphs are commonly used (the "situation room" method used by police forces, firefighters and all emergency services who have to act under pressure and in a hurry, without being able to postpone their actions).

  • Mapping (mind mapping) and GIS (geographic information systems): this tool is ideal for geographically localized crises, such as epidemics or natural disasters.

  • Interactive dashboards: used to monitor key indicators in real time.

  • Charts and diagrams: these are useful for representing the evolution of data over time, for example, handrails for real-time monitoring of who requests, who decides, who...
