5. Selecting sensors and transmitters

Typical pressure measurement covers two distinct ranges: the low-pressure range from 0 to 70 - 100 - 150 - 200 - 250 - 350 kPa, and the high-pressure range from 0 to 0.5 - 0.7 - 1 - 1.5 - 2 - 2.5 - 3.5 - 5 - 7 - 10 - 15 - 20 - 25 - 35 - 50 MPa, with frequencies barely exceeding 1 kHz and temperatures commonly between -10°C and +60°C. Clearly, there are a great many possibilities when it comes to choosing a sensor or transmitter. It is therefore necessary to draw up a set of specifications that will enable us to define an optimum solution to the usual pressure measurement problem. However, it's important to bear in mind that the requirements must be limited to what is strictly necessary, depending on the metrological need. Indeed, the more stringent the specifications, the more expensive the instrument is likely to be, both in terms of price and to the detriment of quality in other areas....
