Overview

ABSTRACT

The data link between the instrument and the site exploiting the measures increasingly determines the engineer's choice. This fundamental issue determines the interchangeability, the interoperability, the equipment renewal, or the sustainability of the facilities. Following the technological expansion of detectors and sensors, integration of box functions, signal and communication processing has become the major achievement of recent years. The aspects inherent to the miniaturization of instruments (manufactured goods and automobiles) and the integration of functions (processes) are presented in the second part. The tendency, with the rise of digital and communication technologies, continues to lean towards "digital" instruments.

 INTRODUCTION

The data link between the instrument and the measurement site increasingly determines the engineer's choices. This crucial issue determines interchangeability, interoperability, equipment renewal and even the durability of installations. After the technological boom in detectors and sensors, the main advance in recent years has been the integration of signal processing and communication functions into a single housing. In this second part, we look at aspects inherent in the miniaturization of instruments (manufactured products and automobiles) and the integration of functions (industrial processes).

With the rise of digital and communication technologies, the trend is increasingly towards "digital" instruments.
