5. Conclusion

Digital instruments are now universally used, thanks to their high stability and resolution, their ability to automate measurements, and their low cost. Sampling techniques, which provide access to all the characteristics of the signals measured, are a particularly powerful and refined analytical tool. However, these techniques still suffer from significant frequency limitations. Improving the performance of high-speed analog-to-digital converters remains a major challenge for instrumentation manufacturers, and the characterization of such converters is currently part of the research programs of national metrology laboratories, within the framework of international cooperation.
