7. Protection against internal water damage
7.1 General information
Ductile iron pipe systems are used to transport water, mainly :
drinking water ;
raw water, either intended to be made potable in a drinking water treatment plant, or for other uses such as irrigation, electricity production, etc.
These waters can be aggressive to cast iron material. The surfaces of components in contact with water are therefore coated with a protective material.
The purpose of interior linings for ductile iron components is to :
